2. The Experience of Pain

The aim of this section is to bring into focus one’s own ideas, beliefs and attitudes toward pain and to consider ways of describing the experience of pain.

We’ve responded to the challenge of expressing the experience of pain through several approaches, such as dance, humor, candor and tragedy. These stories are real and true. The next video is an interpretation of pain using body and sound, followed by an interactive exercise.

In the following video, our host leads us through an overview of the experience of pain.

In this short video, Salima Ladak RN(EC) PhD reviews common definitions of pain and emphasizes the individual nature of pain. Salima is a Nurse Practitioner with the Acute Pain Service at Toronto General Hospital; Adjunct Lecturer at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto; and Coordinator, University Health Network Pain APN Network.
